The Avide cellar overlooks a landscape of other time, a territory characterized from the labyrinthics and geometric dry walls, artistic in their rigorous and essential building and often decorated from the shady carob. Perhaps the carob is the characteristic element of this territory, where it wedges the road of the black d’Avola and of the Cerasuolo di Vittoria. The activity of the cellar was born nearly by chance, after that for years it has been considered only a hobby. Then something has begun to change, the constancy and the passion begun to be fruitful: the quality of vines grew up and the wines produced acquired a better taste. Now the one who manages the business is Giovanni Calcaterra, he is the one’s who is engaged to study new strategies and to plan the big change in order to make wine and to commercialize the wine got from the grapes, which has been produced from the family. To manage the firm, for Giovanni Calcaterra, means practising with continuity in the wine tasting, to mature with his own bottles, to grow and to get better with them, to repeat after time the wine tasting to emphasize the valuable and the lack of the wine. And it is for this reason that he chooses with care the variety of the grapes more adapt at this kind of land and climate and moulds the vineyard and the breeding system, he follows on the land ripening of the fruit and in the cellar even the vinification and the keenness. The wines: the products of Avide have reached in the years an international success.
